How do I comment on a regulation?

Proposed federal regulations are pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I with a comment period — usually 30 days from publication. Anyone may comment in writing, before the deadline stated in the notice, to the department or agency named in it. Comments should be factual and specific; the department reviews every submission before the rule is finalized. Order Paper lists the open comment periods with their deadlines on the Consultations desk.

Order Paper the site watches the same official record and explains it in plain English — see today’s digest, or how a bill becomes law.

When a federal consultation may affect the rights of Indigenous peoples, Order Paper flags it FPIC on the Consultations desk — read the notice, then engage early and directly with the communities concerned.
